Gliclazide tablets come in two strengths: 40mg and 80mg
Gliclazide is a treatment for type 2 diabetes used with proper diet and exercise to treat high blood sugar levels. It can be given on its own or alongside other antidiabetic medicines or insulin.
Gliclazide works by increasing the amount of insulin that your pancreas produces. This results in lower blood sugar levels and the reduction of diabetic symptoms.
Diabetes mellitus refers to a group of diseases that affect how your body uses blood sugar (glucose).
The cause of diabetes varies by type. However, no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to excess sugar in your blood, and to much sugar in your blood can lead to serious health problems.
Chronic diabetes: type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.
Potentially reversible diabetes: Prediabetes and gestational diabetes.
Gestational diabetes: occurs during pregnancy but may resolve after the baby is delivered.
Gliclazide is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for Diabetes.
